BOMBER RULES--BATTERY BOX 6 Months, 1 Week ago
ATTENTION ALL BOMBER DRIVERS

After careful review of the bomber battery box rule, please be advised that effective for the 2010 race season, the rule has been amended to read:.

· ONE BATTERY PER CAR.

· Battery MUST be strapped securely inside a leak proof battery container. Solid steel strap or threaded rod and steel plate recommended. NO bungee cords, tarp straps, etc.

· Battery box to be constructed of steel and NO more than two inches larger than battery.

· Cover of battery box MUST hold leaking battery electrolyte when assembly is upside down.

· Battery MUST be located in driver’s compartment, behind driver.

Drivers are reminded that all class rule suggestions MUST be in writing prior to the end of the October general meeting.

Drivers & crews, please make sure you write down all ideas in our suggestion books, talk to Matt who is gathering rules request / feedback, volunteer for the rules committee, etc. if you would like to make changes.

Keep in mind guys & gals your class has a total and left side weight rule if anyone is going to start getting creative with the box. Plus it’s up to Tech if they feel what you have done is considered “ballast”.

Out of rulebook:

"Battery box to be constructed of 1/8 inch steel and NO more than two inches larger than battery."
-Those are the rules, no need for "feelings".

Also "With driver in car, maximum right front/left rear diagonal weight fifty one (51%) percent of car weight. Maximum combined left side weight fifty three (53%) percent of total car weight (with driver in car)"
-Doesnt say anything about a total weight. Is the rulebook wrong?

You are correct, not worded properly on my part.

Yes you are only restricted to left side and cross weight. This is also a mandatory check for the top 4-5 cars after the main in other classes, so I’m just saying Tech can roll the bombers over them same scales if tech “feels” you have added ballast to check and make sure you are within the weights mentioned. I personally check mine on each tracks scale before I race that night to make sure.

No big deal, just mentioning that those weights are in your rules and if changing the battery box rule gets people looking to add something heavy in another areas as ballast, which I’m not saying has anything to do with the construction of the battery box. For example, can I bolt my battery box to some ¾” boiler plate? Not is Tech feels its ballast you’re adding.
